Geometrical staircase with exposed treads

This design dates from the Victorian style period.

We used African Mahogany for the treads,balusters,risers
rail and newels.

Typical are the exposed treads with the bull nose profile ending with a return into the inner stringer.
Where the risers meet the treads the joint is covered with a
scotia profile. Same is done ate the inner stringer.
Railing in this design is 60x90 mm bull nosed with a round-
over of 20 mm.
Balusters are round 38 mm and paced on each step.
Newels are 128x128 mm square at the blocks.
As seen on the photo the first bull nose step is placed under
a angle in order to create more space near the adjoining door.
The soffit is panelled with hardboard as this needs to be
skimmed.

This staircase is a bit more elegant than the standard

spiral far less bulky,we used S.A.Pine but you can choose

any wood witch is not softer than pine.

Fitting is a less involved.

Price per tread is R 1200,00 excl. the balustrade on the first floor

Spiral stainless steel/wood combination

This spiral is a cost effective stainless steel staircase. The treads and the handrail are out of wood.

To avoid all welding work and cleaning up the rail-baluster connections are made with wooden inserts..

Balusters are fitted through the treads connected with a screw from thew front and bottom.

For the column we use round tubing 154x2 mm as a sleeve placed around a Pine core fitted between the treads. The sleeve is is only decorative.

Also this stair is in D.I.Y available and can be shipped anywhere in the country.

Spiral staircase Victorian style

Although Victorian in design but far less elaborate than done in the Victorian era. A bit more adapted I should say.
The treads and rail are done in stained Iroko.
Bracings and the central column are in this photo done in steel. However wood (s.a.pine) is of course also possible.
This type and actually all types of staircases are done in D.I.Y.

D.I.Y. Spiral Staircase in standard design

These spirals are available in the diameters 1300,1400,1500,1600 mm
We manufacture the stairs to the clients requirements.
Type of wood : S.A.Pine . sorted (far less knots then usual)

Shipment in a box of 105x122x61 cm and the rails as a loose item.

Delivery time approximately three weeks.

Price R 1050,00 per riser.( e.g. a normal height of 2800 = 13 risers,costs R 13.650,00 excl. delivery)

Here we can see a typical detail of the stair. The balusters are 44x44 mm

chamfered,turned with a pin of 18 mm to fit in the rail.

Rail: 44x69 mm, laminated

Cilinders: round 140 mm

Treads: 44 mm fitted between the cilinders.

Concrete form work

The making of the shuttering(form work) for a spiral staircase.

What we normally do is just to provide the client with the principle form work, reinforcing, propping the soffit ,steelwork and concrete work is done by the main building contractor. In this manner its more cost effective.

Gradual dived staircase

This is a typical classical designed staircase whereby the treads on the exposed stringer are gradually divided. A design like this ensures an comfortable walking staircase as an abrupt turning point around the newel is avoided.
